Silent Need Network
A central component of the project is the “Silent Need Network,” which allows students experiencing hardship to access essential goods anonymously. By removing face-to-face interaction, the project reduces stigma and increases accessibility. This responds to research showing that welfare stigma prevents students from seeking support, even when in need.
The project strengthens community networks between students, charities, and the university while promoting collective responsibility and peer solidarity. From a development perspective, it supports sustainable resource use (circular economy principles), addresses both absolute and relative poverty.

Our Story

The Second Shot began with conversations.
Through speaking directly with students, we realised that many are quietly facing financial pressure and relative poverty — often in ways that aren’t visible. Some struggle to afford everyday essentials, yet hesitate to ask for help.
We created this project to offer a simple, practical solution: a student-to-student circulation system that reduces waste while providing dignified, anonymous access to items people actually need.
This isn’t about charity or resale. It’s about community, care, and making sure no student feels left behind.
